Cell membranes are composed of carbohydrates in the form of glycoproteins, and three classes of amphipathic lipids:

  • Phosopholopids
  • Glycolipids
  • Steroids
These components are all extremely susceptible to free radical damage through lipid peroxidation and protein glycation.

 It is scientifically documented that because antioxidants sequentially donate electrons and thereby neutralize free radicals, external administration of antioxidants is an effective strategy for reducing damage to cell membranes. And because protection from damaging free radicals is also vital to plant health, botanical extracts provide a rich source of antioxidant compounds.
